* Gentoo is a highly customisable distribution of Linux which provides exactly what the server needs and no more, making it a highly efficient system. The software is built from scratch on the machine it is running and it optimised for that computer.
** Some programmes run from a server while others will access data on the server and in the event of a power outage data loss may occur. By having the server, network hub and desktop computers all protected by a UPSs this can be avoided by allowing the systems to run for a period after mains power has been lost.
*** These drives are used for backing up the server; you would require a minimum of two drives rotating them on a daily basis or five; one for everyday of the week. This system requires that someone to changes the drive on a daily basis and removes the previous backup drive off site. If there is no one member of staff in everyday of the week then off site backup and storage may be the preferable option, prices vary on the amount of data requiring storage.
**** Instead of receiving your faxes from the fax machine, you can have them converted into a PDF file and emailed to you. This saves on paper and can be archived for future reference.
